Erik's Summary of Today's Meeting With Jim Pasel

So, Dave and I met with Jim Pasel, a local leader of the USW (United steel workers), after we got talking we realized we couldn't plan everything and get the approval from certain organizations in time, so we've rescheduled for the 19th of April, the 18th will instead be used for us to get together and get every one up to date on whats going on, and so we don't look like a bunch of unorganized hooligans come the rally.

Another thing that come up is ore agenda, what exactly were out for.Yes, we are supporting the collation government, but we still need more.If you have suggestions send dave or I an email.(cushman_360@hotmail.com and erik_dolgos@yahoo.ca respectively)

Now, Jim Pasel said that something they were pushing for is an expansion of employment insurance benefits to laid off workers, (more can be found here: http://expandei.ca/), despite what you might think, this is important to us. He explained to us how it worked, that one of the ways laid off workers qualified for more EI was to go back to school. That means that they are going back to collage or university and putting bread on the table so there families can eat. I can understand why, but what are we going to do if we want to get into one of those courses that laid off workers filled up? I'm trying to make laid off workers doing this feel quilty, I'm just trying to say that I think we -as students- should support this, not because most of us want to go onto post secondary, but because these laid off workers want to get back to work as soon as possible, and EI helps them by letting them put bread on there table while they can look for jobs.

Well thats what I think anyways.
